History: Daddy issues galore aka the story of Goro Akechi and how it's a bad idea to give godly powers to someone who wants revenge on his father.

Akechi always wants to make sure that the first impression of him is a favorable one, especially with adults. He appears knowledgeable, polite, friendly and carefully calculates his words before speaking so that they hold considerable weight. He seems to be able to make his way into a conversation easily, his vast knowledge of multiple topics coupled with his soft and calm voice allows for his silver tongue to win him favors and admiration from others. He even had a fanclub back home to the point that he couldn't stay out in public for too long before the fangirls came for him. For the most part, he chuckles at jokes all the while excusing himself for doing so, extruding considerable charisma despite his age. He enjoys debating with others, and while strongly believes in his own values, will also take the time to listen to others and discuss their viewpoints. Despite his age, he was allowed to work with the police force as a detective. He gets along well with Sae Niijima, his co-worker and jokes with her, trying to keep her relaxed.
On the surface, he appears almost perfect.
He has a strong sense of justice which is in great part why he appears to be against the Phantom Thieves at first, thinking that their way of changing a person's entire personality appears too drastic and the fact they operated outside of the judicial system as anti-heroes could lead to a dangerous abuse of power.
Which, it takes one to know how to pull the wool over other's eyes.
Truthfully, all of this personality is a carefully calculated dance by him, a role he plays so that he can carry out his true justice, a quest he's been harboring since his childhood to orchestrate the downfall of the man who caused his mother's suicide - that also happens to be his own father. While calm and collected, Akechi is a lot more the personality of a sociopath, caring very little to some of his victims in his quest for revenge. Of course he wasn't always like this, but after being given powers by 'a god', he becomes the living example of why power corrupts.
All of this stems from his abandonment issues and his desire to be admired. Orphans in Japan are not treated very nicely, and the fact he was born out of wedlock, from a molestation by his father and that the act later drove his mother to suicide, did not earn him any favors. With the only living family member alive being a piece of shit that Akechi wanted revenge against, he had to claw his way upwards from the ground to become who he is now. Constantly looked down due to who he was (an orphan) for most of his life, Akechi has cultivated and worked so that his public image is a paragon of a clean image. Unfortunately, while he earns the trust and admiration of adults and his peers, Akechi does not have true friends or people he can confide in, and his loneliness is kept behind closed doors. At least he assumes, missing that Sae might consider him at least important, caught up in his own laments and drive.
The quest for revenge was always in his heart, but he didn't have the proper tools to do so before. His desire to work for his father so that he can rise to the top so that Akechi can purposefully destroy him when he's at his goal means he has to do terrible things such as murder innocents and he does not seem to regret much of what he does for his own twisted 'justice' simply thinking that most victims are themselves terrible people (there are a few notable exceptions, like Futaba's mother).
This is partly why he goes into a spiel when he fights against Joker/Ren, angry at the fact that it seems that even when Ren was dealt a similarly terrible hand, he finds himself true friends, not fake facets and connections like Akechi had, in addition to being able to have the upper hands against him. His view that this is unfair, revealing his jealousy of the protagonist drives him completely mad to the point he willingly screams at that moment he does not want revenge his father as much as destroying Joker and all of what he stands for.
Of course this does not mean he's just pure unadulterated rage; once defeated, Akechi deplores to Ren he wishes they had meet earlier, how he wishes he was more special like him, and that he considers him a rival, a sign of respect in Akechi's own twisted way. In the end, after the Phantom Thieves mention they would accept him as member again, he choose to sacrifice himself to save them when his Cognitive self appears to kill them, after being promise they'd take care to carry out the revenge against his father he so desired.
And now that the curtain has been lifted of who he really is, his personality might be a little more biting now that he doesn't have to pretend as much.
Also very important to note, due to his mother being a prostitute and Akechi's general view of what caused his own birth, he has a very negative view on sex in general. He will claw and bite his way out if he's forced to do anything and will in turn refuse the opposite be to others in turn. This may land him in trouble a few times.
TLDR:
Positive: Knowledgeable / Charismatic / Strong sense of Justice
Negative: Jealous / Sociopathic / Lonely / Abandonment Issues / Merciless / Vengeful

WILD CARD USER:
Akechi, much like his rival Ren Amamiya / Joker is a Wild Card User, allowing him to wield multiple Personas; facets of himself that he can summon to fight on his behalf, bestowing upon him respective strength and weaknesses. However Akechi's inability to visit the Velvet Room (a place that allows Wild Cards to summon additional Personas and gain guidance) and being unable to properly open up to others means he only has access to two of of them; Robin Hood and Loki. Depending on which one he is using, Akechi wears a different outfit that matches the Persona's colors.
ENDURANCE & BRUTE POWER:
Thanks in part to his abilities as a Persona user, he's much more resistant than the average human being, is able to endure harsher blows, and is in peek physical condition. What he lacks in persona summoning ability compared to his rival, he makes up in brute strength and sheer power; after fighting him, the team mentions that it took the entirety of the Phantom Thieves facing off against him to be at his level.
METAVERSE ACCESS:
He had/has access to the Metaverse, thanks in part to an icon on his phone. He has used this to both murder the shadow version of people so that they die in real life (rather disgustingly for the most part, with a heart attack, while pools of black goo comes out of their mouth and souless eyes) but also to work with the Phantom Thieves.
PSYCHOTIC ABILITY:
Akechi also has a very unique ability that causes people's heart to go psychotic; this allows them to get a burst of power as they are no longer chained by any attachment and they essentially go berserk. He has used this on humans before to cause them to do terrible things, but is also able to turn the spell on himself which he did to fight the Phantom Thieves. He appears to have complete control to how long he can make it last as well.
BRAINS:
Despite being seemling nothing more that a glorified magical hitman than an actual detective, the artbooks mention that Akechi's main skill is his reasoning, which is very possibly why he was able to keep the ruse going for so long and could have been an actual detective if he really had wanted.
